Superintendent William Wardle and 54 Division officers will be kicking off the Pro Action Hockey League 2015 season with members of the Jumpstart Foundation., ProAction Cops & Kids. members and City Councillor Jon Burnside.

Opening ceremonies begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, at the Angela James Arena at 165 Grenoble Drive. Games continue until 7 p.m.

The ProAction Hockey League was started six years ago by 54 Division officers in partnership with ProAction Cops & Kids, the Don Mills Civitan Hockey League and City of Toronto Parks and Recreation.

The goal was to bring organized ice hockey to one of Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods, Flemingdon Park, and later included Thorncliffe Park. Police officers conduct a 10-week hockey-school program which leads into a 15-week organized hockey season.

The PAHL program has tripled in size in over the last five years with current enrolment at over 130 players. Currently, the league is made up of a majority of first-generation Canadians, 30 per cent of whom are girls.

ProAction Cops & Kids, a charitable organization that funds programs linking youth with police officers, sponsors the league.
