The Toronto Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance with the arrest of a man in an Assault a Peace Officer investigation.
On Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 10:30 p.m., plainclothes officers from the Toronto Police Service were in the Markham Road and Eglinton Avenue East area investigating a vehicle that had recently been reported stolen.
It is alleged that:
- officers approached a vehicle parked at an apartment building
- the passenger of the vehicle surrendered to officers without incident
- the driver of the vehicle fled the area and struck one of the officers with the vehicle while fleeing
- the vehicle was located a short distance away, abandoned
The officer received non-life-threatening injuries.
On Saturday, January 3, 2015, Kirisanth Pathmanathan, 24, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
1) Assaulting a Peace Officer
2) Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest
3) Assault with a Weapon
4) Dangerous Driving
5) Fail to stop at scene of accident
6) Theft of Motor Vehicle
7) three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
8) two counts of Theft under $5,000
9) Fail to Comply with Probation
10) Obstruct Peace Officer
He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, January 3, 2015, 9 a.m.
