On Friday, April 19, 2013, at 10 a.m., a dedication of the Don Valley Parkway Bridge over Underpass Gate will be held in honour of two fallen Toronto police officers.

On February 27, 1972, Detectives Michael Irwin and Douglas Sinclair were killed by an armed suspect in the line of duty, while investigating a domestic dispute on Roywood Drive.

Members of 32 Division and the Toronto Police Service continue to remember Detectives Michael Irwin and Douglas Sinclair as fallen colleagues, as “heroes in life, not death.” In recognition of this, City Council approved signs placed on both sides of the Don Valley Parkway Bridge over Underpass Gate, following a motion put forth by Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong.

The dedication ceremony will be attended by the Irwin and Sinclair families, members of the community, politicians and members of the Toronto Police Service, including Dr. Alok Mukherjee, Chair, Toronto Police Services Board; Chief William Blair; OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis; Superintendent Selwyn Fernandes, Unit Commander of 32 Division; Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong, City Councillor for Don Valley East, Ward 34; Honourable Michael Coteau. M.P.P. for Don Valley East; Mike McCormack, President, Toronto Police Association; and TPS Reverend Walter Kelly.

Road closures will be in effect. Underpass Gate will be closed, in both directions, between Fenelon Drive and Roywood Drive on Friday, April 19, 2013, 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.
