The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in relation to a bank robbery investigation. On Monday, September 29, 2014, a man was arrested and charged with three bank robberies.
It is alleged that:
On Friday, June 27, 2014, a man walked into a bank branch in the McCowan Road and Ellesmere Road area.
- he waited in line posing as a customer, wearing a hat and sunglasses
- he approached a teller and gave her a robbery note demanding money
- he fled after receiving a quantity of money
On Wednesday, July 23, 2014, it is alleged the same man attended a bank near Leslie Street and Lawrence Avenue East.
- he approached a teller
- he stated that he had a gun
- he produced a note demanding a quantity of money
- he was given a quantity of money and fled
On Monday, September 29, 2014, it is alleged the same man walked into a bank branch in the Eglinton Avenue East and Brimley Road area.
- he handed the teller a note indicating a hold up
- he indicated that he was armed with a gun
- no weapon was seen
- he obtained a quantity of cash and fled
In each robbery he placed a plastic bag on the counter with an object that resembled the shape of a handgun.
Upon further investigation by the Hold Up investigators, a suspect was identified and arrested.
Larry Elford, 61, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) 3 counts of Robbery
He is scheduled to make a court appearance in Scarborough Courts on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, for a bail hearing.
