The "Sirens for Life" summer blood-donor drive gives local heroes a chance to help save even more lives by donating blood and raising awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations. Every minute of every day, someone, in Canada, needs blood. In most cases, blood must come from more than just one generous blood donor.
On Monday, August 11, 2014, at 10 a.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, Chief Bill Blair, Deputy Fire Chief Mike McCoy and Deputy Emergency Medical Services Chief Frank Hurlehey will introduce Sammy Sirbos, the daughter of a police officer, who received life-saving blood. Sammy wishes to thank officers and the public for their generous donations.
The Sirens For Life campaign is a friendly competition between the Toronto Police Service, Toronto Emergency Medical Services, Toronto Fire Services, and other emergency services to donate the most units of blood over the course of the summer. Canadian Blood Services "Sirens For Life" campaigns are underway across the country to ensure the blood supply remains high during the summer months, when supplies are generally lower than the rest of the year.
