Homicide #23/2014, Abshir Hassan, 31, Media advisory, Saturday, July 19, 2014, 1 p.m., Lawrence Heights, Police canvassing for information and media scrum

On Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at approximately 12:15 a.m., police on patrol in the Lawrence Heights area heard several gunshots.

Officers searching the area found a 31-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, and an 18-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds.

They were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 31-year-old man has since succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Abshir Hassan, 31, of Toronto.

On Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 1 p.m., Homicide Detective Sergeant Steve Ryan, assisted by 13 Division and Toronto Police Service Auxiliary officers, will return to 11 Flemington Road to canvass the neighborhood for information relating to the homicide.

The mobile command post will be set up in front of that address. Officers will seek witnesses and hand out pamphlets in the building. Officers will be in the area until 6 p.m.

At the start of this canvass, Detective Sergeant Steve Ryan will hold a media scrum to share information and make an appeal for more witnesses to come forward.
