A week ago, a 55 Division police officer was speaking with a couple of high school students on Danforth Ave. One of the students was shopping for a prom dress. During the conversation, the other girl mentioned she might not be able to go to her prom because she didn't have the money to buy a dress.
The officer spoke with Constable Rob McDonald, 55 Division's Social Media officer. An appeal was posted on 55 Division's Facebook page and @tpsofficerrob on twitter, for donations of prom dresses.
The community responded magnificently, donating approximately 120 dresses. The Beaches Lions Club donated their clubhouse. As well, they will be giving away two hair appointments to the Gina Edmonds Beauty Supply Outlet for makeovers.
Gary Levy, the co-host of Big Brother Canada, having heard the officers' appeal, is coming to assist the young ladies pick dresses.
"The community has responded very generously with donations of dresses and time," said Constable McDonald.
The girls can attend The Beaches Lions Club House at Ashbridge's Bay Park between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., tonight, Monday, June 2, 2014, to pick a dress.
