On Monday, March 31, 2014, at 1 p.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, Detective Rob North updated the media on the investigation into Homicide #15/2013.

See previous release.

He said:

"As I am sure you will recall, this is the targeted assassination of Michael Nguyen, and the wounding of another man who will remain unidentified.

"As a result of our continuing investigation, I can tell you that we have made some significant progress.

"I can confirm that there were at least three shooters who converged on Mr. Nguyen and his associate in the west parking lot as they returned to their vehicle.

"These men are described as follows:

1) mixed-race Asian, approximately 25, 5'10", with a medium-to-heavy build and short hair

2) light-skinned, possibly of Persian or Middle Eastern descent, in his 20s

3) Asian, 20s, medium height and medium-to-heavy build

"These men were dressed predominately in black and the first man had his face partially covered.

"I can also confirm that investigators have recovered a firearm from the murder scene but, at this time, I am not prepared to speculate who was in possession of that firearm. I can advise that it has been forensically tested and remains in the possession of the Toronto Police Service.

"I can also tell you that, as a result of viewing hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, and in co-operation with our corporate partners at General Motors Canada, we have identified a vehicle of interest. This vehicle is a silver, 2004-2007, four-door Chevrolet Malibu Maxx. This vehicle is the same make as the Chevrolet Malibu except the Malibu Maxx is the hatchback model.

"Investigators have spoken to many owners of the Malibu Maxx throughout the GTA. I would ask that, if you owned or possessed this type of vehicle and it was in the City of Toronto on March 30, 2013 and we have not reached out to you, please contact Homicide at 416-808-7400.

"Further, although we have spoken to many citizens who were at the Yorkdale Mall who have come forward and provided statements, we know that there were thousands of customers at the mall at the time of the murder.

"I would ask those of you who have not yet come forward for any reason to please contact Homicide at 416-808-7400 and speak with an investigator."
