Police request assistance with shooting investigation, York University Student Centre, Two women injured, Update, Man arrested, Kemon Edwards, 22, faces 17 charges, Subsequent search warrant nets five more arrests

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with a shooting investigation.

On Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 10:45 p.m., police were called to the York University Student Centre, at 94 York Boulevard, for a shooting.

On Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 3:40 p.m., police arrested Kemon Edwards, 22, of Toronto, at an unrelated location. He was charged with:

1) Careless Use of a Firearm
2) Discharge Firearm Endanger Life
3) Aggravated Assault
4) Weapons Dangerous
5) Carry Concealed Weapon
6) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
7) Possession of Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace
8) Assault Bodily Harm

A subsequent search warrant was executed in the Steeles Avenue West/Jane Street area.

It is alleged that the following was seized:

- a quantity of Heroin
- a quantity of Cocaine
- a quantity of money
- two firearms

He was additionally charged with:

9) Possession of Heroin
10) Possession for the Purpose Heroin
11) Possession of Cocaine
12) Possession for the Purpose Cocaine
13) two counts of Fail to Comply Recognizance
14) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
15) two counts of Fail to Comply with Prohibition Order

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, in courtroom 103, on Friday, March 14, 2014, at 10 a.m.


During the search warrant, three other men and two boys were also arrested.

Dominic Bernard, 20, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Possession for the Purpose - Cocaine
2) Possession of Cocaine
3) Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana
4) Possession of Marijuana
5) Possession for the Purpose - Heroin
6) Possession of Heroin
7) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
8) two counts of Careless storage of a firearm
9) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
10) two counts of Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
11) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
12) two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
13) two counts of Possessing Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, in courtroom 103, on Friday, March 14, 2014, at 10 a.m.


Alex James, 23, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Possession for the Purpose - Cocaine
2) Possession of Cocaine
3) Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana
4) Possession of Marijuana
5) Possession for the Purpose - Heroin
6) Possession of Heroin
7) Fail to Comply - Recognizance
8) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
9) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
10) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
11) two counts of Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
12) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
13) two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
14) two counts of Possessing Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, in courtroom 103, on Friday, March 14, 2014, at 10 a.m.


Jesse Dawson, 23, of Toronto

1) Possession for the Purpose - Cocaine
2) Possession of Cocaine
3) Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana
4) Possession of Marijuana
5) Possession for the Purpose - Heroin
6) Possession of Heroin
7) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
8) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
9) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
10) two counts of Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
11) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
12) two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
13) two counts of Possessing Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence


He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, in courtroom 103, on Friday, March 14, 2014, at 10 a.m.


A 17-year-old boy, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Possession for the Purpose - Cocaine
2) Possession of Cocaine
3) Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana
4) Possession of Marijuana
5) Possession for the Purpose - Heroin
6) Possession of Heroin
7) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
8) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
9) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
10) two counts of Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
11) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
12) two counts of Fail to Comply - Recognizance
13) Fail to Comply - Peace Bond
14) two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
15) two counts of Possessing Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence

He was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis, in courtroom 1, on Friday, March 14, 2014, at 10 a.m.


A 16-year-old boy, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Possession for the Purpose - Cocaine
2) Possession of Cocaine
3) Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana
4) Possession of Marijuana
5) Possession for the Purpose - Heroin
6) Possession of Heroin
7) Fail To Comply - Recognizance
8) Breach of Recognizance
9) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
10) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
11) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
12) two counts of Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
13) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
14) two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
15) two counts of Possessing Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence

He was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis, in courtroom 1, on Friday, March 14, 2014, at 10 a.m.
