The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of arrests in an ongoing drug-trafficking investigation.
It is alleged that:
- in early 2013, the Toronto Police Drug Squad - Clandestine Lab Unit began an investigation into a criminal organization
- the organization shipped bulk marijuana from British Columbia to Toronto for distribution
- 138 kilograms of marijuana were seized and Persons of Interest were identified
In December 2013, the Financial Crimes Unit - Asset Forfeiture Unit assisted to further the investigation.
It is further alleged that:
- 67 kilograms of marijuana were seized
- three kilograms of hashish were seized
- $1,945,130 (Canadian), $462,131 (US), Ł1,050 (British Pounds), 330 (Euros) were seized from various financial institutions
- a large-scale hashish production lab was dismantled
On Thursday, February 20, 2014, the following people were arrested:
Nitesh Tailor, 35, of Toronto, was charged with:
1) two counts of Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana (over)
2) Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana (under)
3) Possession for the Purpose - Hashish
4) Possession of Marijuana
5) four counts of Possession of Proceeds of Crime (over)
6) Possession of Proceeds of Crime (under)
Antonio Sergi, 50, of Brampton, was charged with:
1) Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana (under)
2) Possession for the Purpose - Hashish
3) Produce Hashish
4) Possession of Proceeds of Crime (under)
Edward Vaserbakh, 35, of Toronto, was charged with:
1) Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana (under)
2) Possession for the Purpose - Hashish
3) Produce Hashish
4) Possession of Proceeds of Crime (under)
Justin Young, 31, of Toronto, was charged with:
1) two counts of Fail to Comply - Recognizance
All four appeared in court at Old City Hall on Friday, February 21, 2014, courtroom 103.
