Man Arrested for a Retail Robbery, Sheppard Avenue East and Consumers Road area, Kirk Joly, 42, faces seven charges

The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad would like to make the public aware of a man arrested in relation to a retail robbery that occurred on Monday, January 18, 2021, in the Sheppard Avenue East and Consumers Road area.

It is alleged that:

- a man entered the store carrying a 6-foot metal pole

- he forced the employee behind the counter while threatening him with the pole

- he then demanded that the employee give him cash from the register as well as lottery tickets and cigarettes

- once the man was handed the cash and merchandise he fled the store

- through investigation the identity of the man was determined and he was quickly placed under arrest


It is further alleged that:

- as the man was being processed at the police station he became aggressive

- a struggle took place and the man assaulted a Booking Sergeant


Kirk Joly, 42, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
2. Disguise with Intent
3. Weapons Dangerous
4. Assault Peace Officer
5. Three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

He was scheduled to appear in court at Toronto North Court, 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 10 a.m., room 306.
