The Toronto Police Service has laid charges against two individuals under the federal Quarantine Act, on behalf of federal Quarantine officers. For detailed information on the federal Quarantine Act, please contact the Public Health Agency of Canada.
It is alleged that:
- On Saturday, September 20, 2020, a man and a woman re-entered Canada via Pearson International Airport after travelling abroad. They were ordered to quarantine for 14 days.
- On Saturday, September 26, 2020, the man was observed in the Yonge-Dundas Square area, and was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for Failure to Comply with a Quarantine Act order.
- On Saturday , October 3, 2020, the man and woman attended Yonge-Dundas Square again for a rally that was attended by 500 non-mask wearing participants.
On Monday, October 5, 2020, Toronto Police Officers, working on behalf of a federal Quarantine Officer from the Public Health Agency of Canada, served an Appearance Notice on the man and the woman.
Christopher Saccoccia, 37, (Also known as Chris Sky) of King City, is charged with:
1. Failure to Comply with an Order Prohibiting or Subjecting to any Condition the Entry into Canada
Jennifer Saccoccia, 34, of King City, is charged with:
1. Failure to Comply with an Order Prohibiting or Subjecting to any Condition the Entry into Canada
They are scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 10 a.m., virtually, in room 117.
Toronto Police Chief James Ramer has confirmed that COVID-19 is a public safety risk. All related laws are being enforced in partnership with municipal, provincial and federal authorities.
