Since May 2018 the intersection of Bremner Boulevard and Lake Shore Boulevard West has been closed to all vehicle traffic. This was initiated to promote public safety of the large pedestrian crowds which arise for various area events.
The Toronto Police Service, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, The City of Toronto and area stakeholders discussed a long term solution to limit vehicle access to the area at designated times. As a result, Maple Sports and Entertainment purchased a Vehicle Mitigation Gate which has been installed on Bremner Boulevard at Lake Shore Boulevard.
Movement of the gate will be under the direction of the Toronto Police Service and it is anticipated the gate will be used before, during and after events at the Scotiabank Arena or as required by the Toronto Police Service.
The ability to resume regular traffic flow, along with the ability to reduce or close off access when required, will assist motorists, residents, businesses and pedestrians in the area.
The Toronto Police Service will make the public aware of closures using various social media platforms and mainstream messaging.
The opening of the road is scheduled to occur on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 7 a.m. Officers from the Toronto Police Service will be present for the first week of the opening, during the morning hours, for enhanced safety.
Gate Operations:
- all regular season games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors and Live Concert events, the gate will be closed two hours prior to the start of the game and re-open one hour at the end of the game
- any post season, playoff, closures would be determined at that time in collaboration with our business partners and the use of a risk assessment
- any other large scale event will include closures being implemented in collaboration with our business partners and the use of a risk assessment
