Victims and Survivors of Crime Week is being marked across Canada from Monday, May 27, 2019 to Sunday, June 2, 2019.
The goal of Victims and Survivors or Crime Week is to raise awareness about the issues facing victims and survivors of crime and about the services, assistance and laws in place to help victims, survivors and their families.
The Department of Justice Canada has provided funding to the Toronto Police Service to bring awareness to the issues facing victims and survivors of Domestic Violence.
Starting on Tuesday, May 28, 2018 the Toronto Police Service will be hosting a two-day conference called the Ontario Domestic Violence Coordinators Conference - The Power of Collaboration. The conference will cover the effects that domestic violence can have on a family and the community itself.
We will hear from a survivor of domestic violence, Kamal Dhillon, she will speak about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband.
Members of the media are ask to join us for opening remarks from Homicide and Sex Crimes Superintendent Pauline Gray and MPP Belinda Karahallos Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services.
The conference will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Toronto Police College located at 70 Birmingham Street.
