Man charged in ongoing Sexual Assault Investigation Derek Nyilas, 46, Faces 14 charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a sexual assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- between 2015 and 2019 a man sexually assaulted three teenage males in his residence in the Bloor Street West and Mill Road area.

Members of the Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) conducted an investigation.

On Wednesday, April 24, 2019, Derek Nyilas, 46, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. four counts of Sexual Assault
2. four counts of Sexual Interference
3. two counts of Sexual Exploitation
4. Householder Permitting Sexual Activity to a Person Under 18


On Wednesday, May 22, 2019, Derek Nyilas was arrested again.

It is further alleged that:

- between November 2016 and April 2019, he sexually assaulted a boy, 17, in his residence in the Bloor Street West and Mill Road area.

- in May 2019, subsequent to the April 2019 arrest, the man indirectly contacted one of the victims in the previous case contrary to his release conditions

He has been charged with:

1. Sexual Assault
2. Attempting to Obstruct Justice
3. Fail to Comply with Recognizance

He is scheduled to appear at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Thursday, May 30, 2019, 9 a.m., room 202.

Boost CYAC was opened in October 2013 and is comprised of specialized child abuse investigators from the Toronto Police Service, in collaboration with members of the Hospital for Sick Children's Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Program (SCAN), Catholic Children's Aid Society, Children's Aid Society of Toronto, Native Child and Family Services, Jewish Family and Child, Radius Child & Youth Services, Child Development Institute, Victim Witness Assistance Program and Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.
