On Thursday, December 5, 2013, police responded to an armed bank robbery at 347 Jane Street.
It is alleged that:
- a man, armed with a knife, entered the bank and jumped over the counter
- pushing the teller aside, he removed money from the cash drawer and placed it in a bag
- he dropped the knife, ran from the bank into the driver's seat of a car, and drove off in a stolen BMW
- responding officers saw the fleeing car and pursued
- the man was driving recklessly, at a high rate of speed, and the pursuit was called off
- the vehicle was spotted again by police on MacDonnell Avenue
- the man exited the vehicle and was arrested
Gary McCalla, 43, of Toronto, is charged with:
1. Robbery
2. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, over $5,000
3. Fail to Stop for Police
4. Dangerous Driving
He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Friday, December 6, 2013, room 101, 10 a.m.
