Two marijuana grow-operations dismantled, Three men charged

On the afternoon of Wednesday, November 13, 2013, the Toronto Drug Squad executed two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrants in the Midland Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East area.

It is alleged that:

- a large, sophisticated, marijuana grow-operation was located within the two commercial units

- the drug lab had nearly 1,000 plants in various stages of growth within the commercial units which had been merged through structural alterations

- the lab was being renovated/expanded to another 2,500 square-foot space which would have been capable of housing another 500 plants

It is further alleged that:

- later in the evening on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, two additional residential Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrants were executed in the Markham Road and Sheppard Avenue East area, in relation to the same investigation

- another 125 small marijuana plants were seized, believed to be destined for the expansion occurring at the commercial address

Vinh Luong, 64; Kai Hua Lin, 44; and Haishi Lu, 51, all of Toronto, have each been charged with:

1. Produce Marijuana
2. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Over

Kai Hua Lin has been additionally charged with:

1. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Under
2. Produce Marijuana

The accused are scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Thursday, November 14, 2013, 10 a.m., room 101.
