The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a series of Robberies in the Finch Avenue West and Islington Avenue area.

It is reported that:

- newly released unlocked iPhones or Samsung cell phones were offered for sale on Kijiji

- prospective buyers were instructed to meet the "seller(s)" at various parking lots of residential buildings, in the Islington Avenue and Finch Avenue West area

- once the buyers arrived at the location, they were robbed of the cash they brought with them

- in some cases, victims were given fraudulent cell phones

- some victims were also sprayed in the face with a noxious substance

The suspects are described as male, black, 20-25, seen leaving in an older-model, silver Nissan Altima or Nissan Maxima

The suspects are selling fraudulent iPhones and Samsung cell phones that appear genuine, still in packaging and with receipts.

Members of the public are reminded to use the following precautions while using any online advertising service:

- meet in a public place with many people around
- thoroughly inspect the product prior to exchanging funds
- consider paying for items through a reputable company or email money transfers
- last-minute change of location and insistence on meeting later at night by the seller are red flags

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-3100, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, or text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637). Download the free Crime Stoppers Mobile App on iTunes, Google Play or Blackberry App World.
