Homicide #53/2013, Neeko Mitchell, 25

On Sunday, November 24, 2013, at approximately 8:10 p.m., police responded to a call for a shooting out front of the North Kipling Community Centre/North Kipling Junior and Middle School located at 2 Rowntree Road, in the Kipling Avenue and Finch Avenue area.

Officers arriving on scene found a man suffering from obvious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man has been identified as Neeko Mitchell, 25, of Toronto.

Investigators understand that, due to a community event that was occurring at the time of the incident, a large number of people may have been both inside and outside of the community centre/school at the time of the shooting. Police would like to speak with anyone who was present or who may have seen the victim prior to or after the shooting.

Public safety alert, Federal pardons fraud investigation, Update

The Toronto Police Service are appealing to the public for more information on an ongoing fraud investigation.

It is reported that:

- a company listed online as Federal Pardons Canada, advertises their services for processing pardons and waivers to enter the USA, for a nominal fee

Further investigation has identified more victims.

Police are continuing to urge anyone who actually met with someone face-to-face to exchange money or documents in connection to receiving a pardon or waiver.

Mikolaj "Nicky" Kaminski, 26, was last seen on Friday, November 22, 2013, in the area of Victoria Street and Shuter Street at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Armed robbery suspect arrested, Loaded firearms and drugs seized

On Friday, November 22, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., police responded to a robbery call at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on The Queensway.

It is alleged that:

- the accused entered the store and placed a food order

- as the employee was accepting the money from the accused, he pointed a gun at her and demanded money from the register

- the employee screamed and the accused fled with a quantity of money

- the accused fled in a vehicle which was stopped by police a short time later

On Saturday, November 23, 2013, a search warrant was executed by the Hold Up Squad with the assistance of 22 Division Major Crime Unit at the accused's home.

It is further alleged that the following was seized:

- a 9mm semi-auto handgun loaded with ammunition
- a long-barrelled rifle (pellet gun) black in colour with a scope
- a semi-automatic handgun pellet gun
- a quantity of money obtained from the robbery
- crack
- drug paraphernalia (scales and packaging)

Michael Knight, 29, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1. Robbery While Armed with Firearm
2. Possession of Cocaine
3. Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
4. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
5. Careless Storage-Firearm
6. Possession of Firearm Knowing it's Possession is Unauthorized
7. Possession For the Purpose – Cocaine

He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, November 23, 2013.

Public safety alert Lost medication

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a quantity of lost medication.

On Friday, November 22, 2013, at 9:15 a.m., a container of Methadone was lost in the area of 1525 Dundas Street West.

The medication could be harmful/fatal if ingested, especially to children.

On Friday, October 4, 2013, details surrounding Projects Brazen and Quell were released by Staff Inspector Greg McLane of the Homicide Squad. At that time, he requested the public's assistance with locating several men wanted in connection with those projects.

On Friday, November 22, 2013, Sedoncik Atkins, 21, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. Traffic in Controlled substance
2. Traffic in Marijuana (under)
3. Threatening Death
4. nine counts of Conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence
5. Participation in a Criminal Organization

He appeared in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East.

Toronto Police Auxiliary Annual Toy Drive

The 19th annual Toronto Police Auxiliary Toy Drive has begun.

Auxiliary Officers from 41, 42, 43 and 33 Divisions are seeking the charitable and generous support from the community, local businesses and students from area schools to support approximately 3000 children and youth in need from the Scarborough area.

Your efforts and those of our Auxiliary Officers will help bring in the spirit of the season and help give a child in need a Christmas.

Media support to assist with public awareness of this worthwhile event is crucial to the success of the Toy Drive.

All toy donations are welcome but we are always desperate for toys for boys and girls ages 10-14.

Unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the following Scarborough police locations:

41 Division: 2222 Eglinton Avenue East
42 Division: 242 Milner Avenue
43 Division: 4331 Lawrence Avenue East
33 Division: 50 Upjohn Road

Also accepting unwrapped toys at the following locations:

TD Canada Trust Bank: 2561 Victoria Park Avenue

On Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at 11 a.m., officers from 32 Division and Traffic Services will be launching a new anti-Drinking & Driving promotional car at Mel Lastman Square at 5100 Yonge Street.

The new “Choose your Ride” vehicle will be unveiled at this time.

Also present will be the TSV mobile Breathalyzer unit, a police command post RV and a staged crashed car scene to help illustrate some of the dangers of Drinking and Driving.

The social media hashtag for this event is #ChooseYourRide.

On Monday, November 25, 2013, at 3:19 p.m., police responded to a stabbing call on Ronan Avenue.

Officers arrived and located a 60-year-old woman suffering from apparent stab wounds. She was taken to hospital via emergency run where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Neil Williams, 27, of Toronto, was taken into custody at the scene.

He is charged with Second Degree Murder

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, room 306, 10 a.m.

The victim has been identified as Janet Williams, 60, of Toronto.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing woman.

Rosa Pisani, 74, was last seen on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at approximately 9 p.m., in the Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West area.

She is described as white, 5', 120 lbs., with brown eyes and short grey hair. She was last seen wearing a black knit sweater layered over two other sweaters, a navy-blue skirt, black knee-high socks and black slip-on loafers. She was carrying a black purse.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Man arrested on TTC bus, Loaded handgun seized, Second loaded handgun seized in search warrant, Darnell Garnes, 18, faces 16 charges

On Thursday, November 21, 2013, at approximately noon, police investigated a man riding on a TTC bus in the Malvern area.

It is alleged that:

- the man had a fully loaded revolver in his pocket

A search warrant was subsequently executed on the man's home.

It is further alleged that:

- a second, fully loaded, revolver was recovered as well as a quantity of narcotics

Darnell Garnes, 18, of Toronto, is charged with:

1) two counts of Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
2) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
3) Possession of Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
4) Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
5) two counts of Possession of Firearm with Serial Number Removed
6) Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle
7) two counts of Careless Storage of Firearm
8) two counts of Weapons Dangerous
9) Carry Concealed Weapon
10) Possession Methamphetamine for Purpose Trafficking
11) Possession Methamphetamine

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, November 29, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Toronto East Courts, in courtroom 412 .

On Saturday November 30, 2013, the City of Toronto will present the 47th annual "Cavalcade of Lights."

As part of the Cavalcade of Lights show, there will be a pyrotechnic program from the towers of City Hall.

Road closures will be in place to prevent both pedestrian and vehicular traffic from entering the fall-out zone around City Hall.

Event itinerary and road closures are as follows:

Event times: 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

6 p.m. - Pre-Show
7 p.m.-8 p.m. - Main Stage- Live music: Divine Brown, Tyler Shaw, Carvin Williams & Cold Specks
7:15 p.m. - Tree/Square lighting.
8 p.m.-8:08 p.m. - Pyro/Fireworks
8:08 p.m. - Main Stage- Live music (TBD)
9 p.m. - DJ Skating Rink Party
10:30 p.m. - Event ends

Confirmed road closures from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.:

- Bay Street - closed from Queen Street to Dundas Street
- Hagerman Street - closed from Elizabeth Street to Bay Street
- Elizabeth Street - closed from Dundas Street to Hagerman Street
- Albert Street - closed from Bay Street to James Street
- James Street - closed from Queen Street to Albert Street

Uncomfirmed Closures from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.:

- Queen Street West westbound curb lane from Bay Street to the west side of Nathan Philips Square Property

The TTC Bay Street bus route will be affected by these road closures as follows:

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance locating a missing girl.

Skye Soutar, 17, was last seen on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at 5:30 p.m., in the Jarvis Street/Gerrard Street East area.

She is described as white, 5'3", 130 lbs., with blue eyes, dyed blond/red shoulder-length hair, a pierced nose and a tattoo on her right forearm. She was wearing a white puffy winter jacket, a grey sweatshirt and grey sweatpants.

She frequents the Parkdale and Regent Park areas. Police are concerned for her safety.

Donald Wilkinson, 71, was last seen on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at 10 a.m., in the Albion Road/Martin Grove Road area.

He is described as white, 5'10", 180 lbs., with short balding gray hair. He was wearing a yellow sweater, beige vest, blue pants with a blue or black toque, and possibly glasses.

Police are concerned for his safety.
