Police request assistance with Attempt Murder investigation, McCowan Road and Alton Towers Circle area, Images of vehicle of interest released

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance identifying a vehicle of interest in an Attempt Murder investigation.

On Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 5:01 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the McCowan Road and Alton Towers Circle area.

It is reported that:

- a male had opened fire on another male who was in a small park

- also in the small park at the time of the shooting were 11 small children

- two girls, 5 and 9, were located with gunshot wounds

The girls were taken by Toronto Paramedic Services in an emergency run to hospital, where both were admitted and underwent surgery for their injuries.

The injuries to both girls are not considered life-threatening.

The vehicle of interest is described as a black, four-door Nissan Versa sedan, 2007-2011. Images have been released.

Police are seeking to identify the vehicle. Man, 27, arrested in Fail to Remain fatal collision #31/2018, Briar Hill Avenue and Dufferin Street, Faces four charges

Toronto Police Service Traffic Services would like to make the public aware of an arrest in the Fail to Remain fatal collision #31/2018 which occurred at Briar Hill Avenue and Dufferin Street.

See previous release.

It is alleged that:

- a woman, 50, was on the roadway and was struck by a northbound Dodge Ram pick-up truck

- the driver stopped the vehicle after the collision and approached the woman who had been struck by the vehicle

- after a brief conversation, the driver returned to the Dodge Ram pick-up truck, fled at a high rate of speed, and was last seen driving through a residential area

The woman received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

On Thursday, June 14, 2018, Jesse Petroff, 27, of Oshawa, was arrested.

He is charged with :

1) Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death
2) Criminal negligence causing death
3) Fail to stop after accident causing death
4) Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Friday, June 15, 2018, room 306.

The Toronto Police Service is seeking assistance locating a missing woman.

Betty Burton, 86, was last seen on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., in the Bayview Avenue and York Mills Road area.

She is described as 5'3", slim build, long grey hair. She was last seen wearing a red blouse, dark pants, black purse with long strap, prescription glasses.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Goran Drozdek, 34, faces 36 charges in ongoing online residential property rental investigation, Photograph of man released

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in an ongoing online residential property rental investigation.

It is alleged that:

- the accused posted apartment rental advertisements on the internet

- the properties advertised were, in fact, condominiums

- the condominiums were advertised for multiple addresses, including: 87 Peter Street, Toronto; 5025 Foursprings Avenue, Mississauga; and 5044 Hurontario Street, Mississauga

- from September 2017 to June 2018, the accused met with victims in person, the victims signed leases and turned over cash deposits to the accused

On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, police, responding to another online ad, arrested Goran Drozdek, 34, of no fixed address. He is charged with:

1) Nine counts of Fraud - Under ($5000)
2) 18 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation
3) eight counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance
4) Assault to Resist Arrest

He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Old City Hall, 10 a.m., courtroom 101.

Police seek assistance identifying man wanted in Sexual Assault investigation, Yonge Street and Gerrard Street area, Security camera images of man released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance identifying a man wanted in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Monday May 28, 2018, at approximately 11 p.m., a 20-year-old woman was at a business in the Yonge Street and Gerrard Street area

- a man entered the business, walked directly up to the women and sexually assaulted her

- the man then left the business

The man is described as mid-late 20s, 5’6”, medium build, short dark hair, dark eyes, unshaven. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a grey T-shirt, carrying a grey backpack.

Security camera images of the man are released.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting further assistance with a Homicide investigation.

On Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 5:30 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision in the Frankish Avenue and Sheridan Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- a male cyclist was struck by a vehicle

On Friday, June 15, 2018, at approximately 8 a.m., a 13-year-old boy, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) First-Degree Murder

He was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street on Friday, June 15, 2018.

He cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

There is still an outstanding male suspect. He is described as early teens to early 20s, wearing dark clothing.

Project Red Brick, Three men, one boy, face total of 48 charges, Wellesley Street East and Bleecker Street area, Two firearms, cash and drugs seized

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of recent arrests relating to Project Red Brick.

See previous release.

Members of the 51 Division Major Crime Unit have continued to investigate a number of shooting occurrences in and near the Regent Park community.

It is alleged that:

- in doing so, a motor vehicle was identified, believed to be related to at least two shooting occurrences.

- on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at approximately 7:15 p.m., members of the 51 Division Major Crime Unit located this motor vehicle parked in the underground garage of a building near Wellesley Street East and Bleecker Street.

- the vehicle had what appeared to be bullet holes in it

- four male occupants of the vehicle were arrested

- during a search conducted incident to arrest, two loaded firearms were located, both German Sport 1911 .22 calibre pistols

- also located during the search was a quantity of powdered cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, and cash

Lee Davis Rurimirije, 18; Haben Kebedom, 18; Robalee Balcha, 18; and a 17-year-old boy, all of Toronto, were arrested and each charged with:

1) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon in a Motor Vehicle
2) two counts of Careless Storage of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
3) two counts of Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
4) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
5) two counts of Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
6) Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking
7) Possession of the Proceeds of Crime Under $5000

The men were scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Friday, June 15, 2018, 10 a.m., room 103.

The Young Person was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street, on Friday, June 15, 2018, 10 a.m., room 1.

The Young Person cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Media advisory, Saturday, June 16, 2018, 10:30 a.m., 11 Division, 2054 Davenport Road, Push For Literacy

On Saturday June 16, 2018, the public and media are invited to join Chief Mark Saunders, Superintendent Heinz Kuck, and members of the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club, to walk a three-kilometre route starting at 11 Division (2054 Davenport Road, in public parking lot on west side of building), and ending at the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club (180 Westmoreland Avenue).

Superintendent Kuck will push a weighted steel sled east on Davenport Road, south on Dufferin Street, east on Dupont Street, and south on Westmoreland Avenue to the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club.

The Push For Literacy is raising money to buy books and refurbish the library at the Club.

At each half-kilometre mark, youth from the Club will stop and speak to the challenges of life and the empowerment that reading and literacy provide.

At the same time, and symbolic to this experienced hardship, weight will be added to the sled. Upon the completion of the route, the sled will weigh approximately 400 pounds.

Anticipated arrival at the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club (180 Westmoreland Avenue) is at noon. At that time, there will be a number of guest speakers, the presentation of the Push for Literacy fundraising cheque as well as a community BBQ.

He is wanted for:

He is described as 5'9", 151 lbs., short black hair, moustache/goatee, brown eyes.

Fail-to-Remain fatal collision #33/2018, Danforth Road and St. Clair Avenue East, Driver and vehicle sought

On Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 6 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Danforth Road and St. Clair Avenue East.

It is reported that:

- a man, 55, was riding a Honda motorcycle westbound on St. Clair Avenue East, approaching Danforth Road

- a Hyundai Accent was eastbound on St. Clair Avenue East, attempting to make a left turn to Danforth Road

- the Hyundai and motorcycle collided in the intersection

The man, 55, received life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police request assistance locating the involved driver and vehicle. The vehicle is described as a 2006-2010, four-door, blue Hyundai Accent. The vehicle may have sustained damage to the front or right side of the vehicle as a result of the collision.

Police request the driver of a red 2005-2010 Pontiac Pursuit/G5, which was eastbound on St. Clair Avenue East, turning left to Danforth Road, to contact police.

Police request any body shop, or parts supplier which is contacted for replacement parts or repairs for a 2006-2010 Hyundai Accent to contact police.

Investigators are releasing images of the suspect's vehicle.

Police are also requesting the public to contact police if they have any security camera footage recorded on Thursday, June 14, 2018, from the following streets:

• Danforth Road
• St. Clair Avenue East

Investigators are specifically seeking dash camera footage from Danforth Road and St. Clair Avenue East from Thursday, June 14, 2018, between 5:45 a.m. and 6:15 a.m.

On Wednesday, June, 13, 2018, at 8:31 p.m., officers responded to a call for an assault in the West Lodge Avenue and Lansdowne Avenue area.

It is reported that:

- a man was in the area of 103 West Lodge Avenue when he was approached by an unknown person and assaulted

- the man was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced

Officers are in the process of notifying next of kin.

Police request assistance with Assault investigation, Yonge Street and Carleton Street area, Security camera image of suspect released

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Monday, April 23, 2018, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a 34-year-old wheelchair-bound man went to the Shoppers Drug Mart in the Yonge Street and Carleton Street area

- while shopping, an unknown man approached him, grabbed both his arms and pinned them to his wheelchair

- when a witness intervened, the suspect claimed he was the victim's caregiver

- the victim was able to break free and the suspect followed him southbound on Yonge Street

- the suspect gave chase and attempted several times to grab the victim's wheelchair

The suspect is described as 45-50, 5'9" - 5'10", heavy build, olive complexion, brown hair. He was wearing a dark-coloured hooded sweatshirt with 'EllisDon' written on the front.

A security camera image of the suspect is released.

Aga Khan World Partnership Walk, Sunday, June 17, 2018, Road closures

On Sunday, June 17, 2018, the Aga Khan Foundation Canada will hold their 33rd annual World Partnership Walk. Registration and announcements will take place at David Pecaut Square at Metro Hall prior to the event.

The VIPs and dignitaries will proceed to King Street West and start the walk at 12 p.m. - 12:15 p.m., proceeding eastbound on King Street West in the curb lane, then southbound on Simcoe Street. The corporate teams will join the walk on Wellington Street West at Simcoe Street, and the event will proceed along the following route:

Walkathon Route: Formation Area: Metro Hall:

- eastbound King Street West (eastbound curb lane only)
- eastbound Wellington Street West
- southbound Simcoe Street (two westbound lanes only)
- eastbound Wellington Street West (full roadway)
- northbound University Avenue (northbound lanes)
- turnaround south of College Street
- southbound University Avenue
- westbound Wellington Street West (full roadway)

Dispersal Area: Metro Hall

The event is expected to be concluded by approximately 2 p.m.

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should consider alternate methods of transportation.

Road closures:

- Wellington Street West from 11:30 a.m. -2:30 p.m., at John Street to University Avenue

- northbound University Avenue from 11:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., at Front Street to College Street

- southbound University Avenue from 11:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., at College Street to Front Street

The TTC will not incur significant service disruptions during this event.

Eighth Annual Yorkville Exotic Car Show, Sunday, June 17, 2018, Road closures

On Sunday, June 17, 2018, the Yorkville Exotic Car Show, in cooperation with the Bloor-Yorkville BIA, will be hosting their 8th annual event. As part of this event, Bloor Street West will be closed to vehicular traffic, starting at 6 a.m., from Avenue Road/Queen’s Park to Bay Street. The major north/south streets, such as Avenue Road, Queen’s Park, and Bay Street, will remain open.

Road closures: Sunday, June 17, 2018, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

- Bloor Street West from Avenue Road to Bay Street
- Bellair Street from Bloor Street to Critchley Lane
- St. Thomas Street from Bloor Street to Sultan Street

The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions.

Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation Journey to Conquer Cancer, Sunday, June 17, 2018, 9 a.m., Road closures

On Sunday, June 17, 2018, at 9 a.m., the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation will host the 6th annual Journey to Conquer Cancer Run/Walk. Organizers are expecting approximately 3,000 participants.

Route formation will take place at 25 Orde Street:

- southbound on University Avenue (centre and east curb southbound lanes)
- turnaround Wellington Street
- northbound on University Avenue (centre and west curb northbound lanes)
- turnaround is the top of Queen’s Park Circle
- south on University Avenue (centre and east curb southbound lanes)

Dispersal will take place at 25 Orde Street.

Road closures will start at 8 a.m. and will be re-opened by 11:30 a.m.:

- Wellesley Street from Bay Street to Queen’s Park
- Queen’s Park Crescent from Bloor Street south to College Street
- University Avenue from College Street to Wellington Avenue

Homicide #41/2018, West Lodge Avenue and Lansdowne Avenue area, Update, Victim identified, Joseph Perron, 51, Suspect video and images released

On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Joseph Perron, 51, was murdered in the area of 103 West Lodge Avenue, Toronto.

Through investigation, a suspect has been identified and is wanted for Second Degree Murder. Homicide investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in positively identifying the suspect.

Investigators believe the suspect may frequent the West Lodge Avenue and Lansdowne Avenue area.

On Friday, June 15, 2018, Sheldon Eriya, 21, of Markham, was arrested in Pickering and charged with:

1) Discharge Firearm
2) Two counts of Attempt Murder
3) Two counts of Aggravated Assault
4) Possession for the purpose of trafficking Cocaine
5) Possession of Proceeds of Crime

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, June 16, 2018, 9 a.m., room 101.
