TPS officer charged

A Toronto Police Service officer has been arrested and charged.

Constable Jason Levesque, 44, with 11 years' service, is currently attached to 51 Division.

It is alleged that:

- on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, Constable Levesque was working with his partner

- at 11:34 p.m., they were dispatched on a radio call for a company alarm in the Yonge Street and Queens Quay East area

- there was information that two males were inside the construction site

- once on scene, Constable Levesque and his partner entered the construction site to do a search

- during the search, Constable Levesque discharged his firearm at a man, missing him and striking a construction shed

On Tuesday, February 27, 2018, Constable Jason Levesque was arrested and charged with:

1) Careless Use of a Firearm

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, 11 a.m., room 111.

Missing man, Sentinel Road and Sheppard Avenue West area, Vincenzo Di Maria, 79

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance locating a missing man.

Vincenzo De Maria, 79, was last seen on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 8 a.m., in the Sentinel Road and Sheppard Avenue West area.

He is described as 5’5”, 165 lbs., medium build, salt/pepper hair. He was last seen wearing a black knee-length coat, brown slacks, black shoes, beige/blue polo shirt, brown/beige cardigan.

He may be driving a 2008 silver Chevrolet Malibu with Ontario licence plate CBXM 256.

Police are concerned for his safety.

The Toronto Police Service is seeking assistance locating a missing woman.

Glenda-Jane Steepe, 55, was last seen on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 11 a.m., in the Warden Avenue and Lawrence Avenue East area.

She is described as 5’4”, heavy build, short grey hair.

She was last seen driving a 2008 silver Dodge vehicle, with Ontario licence plate BDRF 334.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Fatal collision #10/2018, 3230 Bayview Avenue

On Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 6:17 a.m., police received a call for a personal injury collision at 3230 Bayview Avenue.

It is reported that:

- on Friday, February 16, 2018, at 11:19 p.m., a man, 45, was driving a 2002 Honda Odyssey at a high rate of speed, westbound in a parking lot at 3230 Bayview Avenue

- the vehicle subsequently struck the building at 3230 Bayview Avenue and came to a stop

- a passerby located the vehicle and driver the following morning and called for emergency personnel

- officers arrived on scene and located the driver and vehicle

The driver had received life-threatening injuries and was pronounced at the scene.

Homicide #8/2018, Terrance Coughlin, 59, Update, Curtis Ashley Wheatley, 35, arrested, Charged with First-Degree Murder

The Toronto Police Service would like to advise the public of an arrest in a Homicide investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Monday, February 26, 2018, at 11:57 p.m., police responded to reports that a man was being assaulted by another man in the Bathurst Street and St. Clair Avenue West area.

- officers arrived on scene and located a man with obvious trauma

- he was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced

On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, during the afternoon, TPS Homicide officers arrested Curtis Ashley Wheatley, 35, of Toronto.

He has been charged with:

1) First-Degree Murder

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, March 1, 2018, 10 a.m., courtroom 306.

March is Fraud Prevention Month. The goal is for Canadians to Recognize, Reject and Report Fraud. Reduce Fraud by Increasing Fraud Awareness. Fraud Prevention Month is spearheaded by the Competition Bureau of Canada.

Throughout March 2018, Toronto Police Service Financial Crimes and its partners will be running a special four-week #Fraudchat series which provides the opportunity to engage Canadians with information to prevent them from becoming victims.

No demographic is immune to fraud, regardless of age, education or background. Fraud is a growing problem that affects everyone. Canadians need to educate themselves about the various types of fraud so they can avoid becoming victims.

About #Fraudchat

#Fraudchat is an online Twitter program that seeks to educate and exchange ideas with the public about financial crimes and fraud. The moderators for this program are Gail Regan (@ReganFCU), and Diane Kelly (@DKellyFCU) of TPS Financial Crimes, along with the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (@Canantifraud).

Fatal collision #13/2018, Canongate Trail at Ockwell Manor Drive

On Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 3:30 p.m., police received a call for a personal injury collision at Canongate Trail near Ockwell Manor Drive.

It is reported that:

- a man, 75, was driving a 1998 Toyota Sienna northbound on Canongate Trail

- a boy, 11, was attempting to cross Canongate Trail

- the boy was struck by the vehicle as he attempted to cross the road

The boy received life-threatening injuries and was pronounced at hospital.

Boy, 17, arrested for Attempt Murder, Coxwell Avenue and Cosburn Avenue area

On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at 3:17 p.m, the Toronto Police Service responded to a radio call for a stabbing in the vicinity of Coxwell Avenue and Cosburn Avenue .

It is alleged that:

- two boys arrived in the area of Coxwell Avenue and Cosburn Avenue looking for a 16-year-old boy

- they located the 16-year-old boy in a nearby bus stop and repeatedly stabbed him

- witnesses came to the aid of the boy and other two boys fled

- the 16-year-old boy was rushed to hospital via emergency run

On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, a 17-year-old boy was arrested. He has been charged with:

1) Attempt Murder

He is scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street, on Thursday, March 1, 2018, room #1.

He cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

One boy is still outstanding.
