The Toronto Police Service Human Trafficking Enforcement Team would like to advise the public of a Human Trafficking investigation.
It is alleged that:
- a 17-year old girl met a man approximately a year ago, through the social media site Instagram
- two weeks ago, the man arranged to meet the girl
- the man met the girl, advised her that she could earn a lot of money working for him in the sex trade
- the man took the girl to a hotel in Mississauga
- the man took photographs of the girl in certain stages of undress and posted them on backpages.com, advertising for sexual services
- the man controlled all communications with the customers via text messages
- the man advised the girl what services were to be provided and the price to be charged for each service
- all the money was turned over to the man
- during this time, the girl introduced her 18-year-old friend to the man
- the man convinced the woman to work for him in the sex trade
- the man took the woman and the girl to a motel in Mississauga and introduced them to another man
- both men took photographs of the woman and girl and posted them on backpages.com, advertising for sexual services
On Saturday, October 15, 2016, a man was arrested.
Stephen McGann, 20, of Toronto has been charged with:
1) Trafficking in Persons under Eighteen years by Recruiting
2) Financial /Material Benefit/Trafficking Person under 18 years
3) Material Benefit from Sexual Services provided by Person under 18 years
4) Procuring/Person under 18 years
5) Procuring/Exercising Control over person under 18
6) Advertising another person’s sexual services
7) Print/Publish/Possess to publish Child Pornography
8) Import/Sell/Distribute, etc. Child Pornography
9) Unlawfully Possess Child Pornography
10) Trafficking in persons by Exercising Control, etc.
11) Financial/Material Benefit/Trafficking person over 18
12) Material Benefit from Sexual Services
13) Procuring/Recruit person to provide sexual services for consideration
14) Procuring/Exercising Control
15) Advertising another person’s sexual services
He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East, on Monday, October 17, 2016, courtroom 412.
Police are concerned there may be other victims.
Police would like to encourage all affected individuals to come forward and report Human Trafficking occurrences to police. We want to make sure that everyone has access to support services and an exit strategy, regardless of their decision to proceed criminally.
