On Friday, April 15, 2016, at 10 a.m., 52 Division Superintendent Dave McCormack and members of the Chinatown Business Improvement Area will meet at the corner of Dundas Street West and Huron Street to announce the start of Project Blue Monkey.

Superintendent McCormack will be speaking about the ten-week project that will begin on Friday, April 15, 2016. The project is focusing on crime prevention, local disorder issues related to theft from autos, shoplifting, panhandling, public intoxication, drugs and any related problems.

Police are being proactive and directing additional patrols in the Chinatown area.

In addition to this year’s project, police will conduct workshops and presentations to raise awareness for seniors in the Chinatown area. These Seniors Safety Campaign workshops will be conducted in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Similar projects have taken place over the past years in the downtown Chinatown area. Blue Monkey will be very similar. Chinatown is a very safe neighbourhood which attracts both local visitors and tourists. Officers will provide a heightened presence in the area, and will be proactive by visiting local businesses and reviewing crime-prevention strategies.

Spray-paint vandalism, disorderly conduct and thefts from autos continue to be concerns to the Chinatown BIA. Police will be working with the community and are encouraging residents, visitors and business owners who witness any of the above acts to immediately call police on the emergency 9-1-1 telephone line to report this or any other crime in progress. If you see suspicious activity or witness a crime, please call police at 416-808-2222. All acts of graffiti, disorderly conduct and thefts from autos should be reported to police.
