Since November 2012, the Financial Crimes Unit has partnered with the Financial Service Commission of Ontario to educate the public about financial crimes and fraud through the use of social media.

Every Thursday evening, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. EST, these two agencies host a one-hour forum on Twitter called “#Fraudchat.” This program seeks to educate and exchange ideas with the public about financial crimes and fraud. The moderators for this program are Kristen Rose, Senior Communications Officer of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and Detective Sergeant Cameron Field of the TPS Financial Crimes Unit.

As the Toronto Police Service and its partners wind down Fraud Prevention Month campaigns, tonight’s program will cover how organizations can help warn the public about emerging frauds and scams. Organizations in both the private and public sector can assist in overall fraud crime prevention. Partnerships are critical in effectively educating our communities about the realities of frauds and scams. Are you with an organization that can play a role in fraud prevention? Please join us tonight.

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to a sexual assault investigation and requesting the public's assistance locating a wanted man.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Saqib Nawaz, 37, of Toronto.

It is alleged that:

- the suspect committed a sexual assault, in 2012, while in Pakistan

He is described as having a brown complexion, 5’10”, 170 lbs., short, black hair and is balding.

A photograph of Saqib Nawaz, 37, has been released.

Search warrant leads to seizure of drugs, cash and 34 replica firearms, Three men face drug charges, Photographs of replica firearms released

On Thursday, April 4, 2013, the Toronto Drug Squad executed a search warrant at an address on Tyndall Avenue.

It is alleged that:

- three men were located at the address and arrested

- a quantity of crystal methamphetamine, cash, body armour, scopes, laser sights and 34 replica firearms and assault rifles were seized

- some of the replicas were marked with brand names such as FAMAS, Heckler and Koch and Colt and were manufactured to appear real

Arnold Semira, 38, Florencio Balagbag, 46, and Isagani Aquino, 57, all of Toronto, have each been charged with:

1. Possession for the Purpose Controlled Substance
2. Possession of Proceeds of Crime

The accused were scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Friday, April 5, 2013, room 103, 10 a.m.

Xiao (Diane) Wang, 43, of Toronto, has been charged with:

2. Possession of the proceeds of Crime

She is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue, on Monday, May 20, 2013, at 1 p.m.

4) Sexual exploitation

He is described as black, with medium complexion, 5’10", 150 lbs., with short, black hair. He has a tattoo on his right forearm.

On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at 10:25 p.m., police responded to a call for the sound of gunshots in the Keele Street/Glenlake Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- five armed men attended an apartment building on Glenlake Avenue

- the men, once inside the apartment, demanded property and money from the victim

- the victim refused and was shot once

- the men then fled the scene

On Thursday, April 4, 2013, 11 Division officers executed three search warrants in Toronto.

It is further alleged that:

- police seized a sawed-off shotgun, a quantity of cocaine and money

On Thursday, April 4, 2013, Fathe Ahmed, 20, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Attempted murder while using other firearm
2) Discharge firearm endanger life
3) Robbery while armed with firearm
4) Aggravated assault
5) Assault with a weapon

On Thursday, April 4, 2013, Russell Bullock, 19, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Attempted murder while using other firearm

On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, Mohamed Taha, 19, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Attempted murder while using other firearm

6) Dangerous Operation
7) Failure to stop at scene of accident

Police request assistance with sexual assault investigation

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying a man wanted in a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 10 a.m., a man sexually assaulted a woman on a TTC street car, westbound on College Street, in the College Street/Augusta Avenue area

- the man exited the street car, at College Street and Augusta Avenue, and fled the scene

The man is described as brown, 20-30, skinny build with long shaggy hair. He was last seen wearing dark clothing.

Man arrested on extradition warrant, Haim Amiram Cohen, 41

On Friday, April 5, 2013, the Toronto Police Service Fugitive Squad, with the assistance of Interpol Ottawa and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, arrested Haim Amiram Cohen, 41, under authority of a Provisional Arrest Warrant - Extradition Act.

Haim Amiram Cohen has been wanted by authorities in Israel for Criminal Sexual Assault on a minor. The offences occurred between 1989 and 1993 against a 14-year-old girl.

He pled guilty to all the offences with which he was charged before allegedly fleeing Israel to avoid serving his sentence.

He is currently being held pending his extradition to Israel.

“International cooperation between INTERPOL partners is crucial to supporting the Canadian law enforcement community and ensuring the security of Canadians at home and abroad,” said Inspector Glenn Martindale, Director of RCMP INTERPOL Ottawa. “The arrest of this individual would not have been possible without the help of our Liaison Office in Paris, the Israel National Police, Canada Border Services Agency, Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Toronto Police Service”.

On Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 5:53 a.m., police responded to a call for unknown trouble at 220 Oak Street.

It is reported that:

- police located a woman suffering obvious signs of trauma

- she was pronounced dead at the scene

A man was taken into custody and arrested for murder.

The names of the victim and the accused will not be released at this time pending notification of the deceased's next of kin.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Grade 12 students from four police divisions will donate blood to Canadian Blood Services on Monday, April 8, 2013. Monday’s clinic runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Service members and students in 11, 12, 13 and 14 Divisions will make the donations at a mobile clinic in the parking lot of 12 Division, 200 Trethewey Drive.

Long-time blood donor Sandra McQuade, the administrative coordinator at 12 Division, said the School Resource Officers in the Divisions were instrumental in encouraging the students to participate in the program.

“The students are giving back by donating blood and, at the same time, they will be interacting with our officers in a positive way,” she said. “It’s a new experience to share together and a partnership in life-saving.”

The Canadian Blood Services mobile clinic is a climate-controlled tractor-trailer that can be set up in a parking lot or curbside.

23 Division will conduct a Spring Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Initiative on tow trucks and taxis. This initiative will be on Monday, April 8, 2013 and Tuesday April 9, 2013, 7:30 a.m., at the Woodbine Race Track, at 555 Rexdale Boulevard, north west parking lot.

This safety initiative will be a joint-force operation involving the Toronto Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Peel Regional Police, York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police Service, South Simcoe Police Services, Waterloo Regional Police Service, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of the Environment and Toronto Municipal Licensing and Standards.

New York State Police will also be on hand.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing girl.

Ayana Olver, 13, was last seen on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 8:30 p.m., near Kingsview Boulevard, in the Kipling Avenue/Dixon Road area.

She is described as black, 5’4”, 160 lbs., black, shoulder-length hair in braids. She was wearing black pants, purple T-shirt, black leather jacket and rainbow-coloured shoes.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Sexual Assault Alert, Queen Street West/Spadina Avenue

The Toronto Police Service would like to make to make the public aware of a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, March 30, 2013, a 19-year old man attended a nightclub in the King Street/University Avenue area where he met four women

- the man left the club with the women who offered to drive him home

- instead, the women drove him to a parking lot in the Queen Street West/Spadina Avenue area where they all sexually assaulted him

The women are described as:

1) white, 30-36, approximately 5'4", 190-200 lbs., with short blond hair and a tattoo of wings on the back of her neck. She spoke with an accent, possibly British, and was the driver

2) white, 30-36, approximately 5’4", 190-200 lbs., with longer dark hair dyed red at the bottom

3) white, 30-36, approximately 5’4", 190-200 lbs.

4) white, 30-36, approximately 5’4", 190-200 lbs.

All four women were wearing short black dresses and high heels. They were in a silver Honda SUV.
