Police request assistance with Personal Injury collision #11/2014, Eglinton Avenue East at Brentcliffe Road

On Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 4:04 p.m., police received a call for a personal injury collision at Eglinton Avenue East at Brentcliffe Road.

It is reported that:

− a man, 35, was driving a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle, eastbound on Eglinton Avenue, approaching Brentcliffe Road

− as a man, 48, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, westbound on Eglinton Avenue East, turning left on to southbound Brentcliffe Road, the Chevrolet struck the eastbound motorcycle

− the motorcycle lost control and the rider was thrown off

The motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

Project Capella is a multi-jurisdictional, Major Case investigation into the homicide of Timothy Bosma, the disappearance of Laura Babcock, and the death of Wayne Millard.

On Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 3 p.m., at headquarters, in the media gallery, Staff Inspector Greg McLane, Homicide, will update the media on actions taken by the TPS today on this project.

This will not be available on Bell TOC, but will be streamed to Crime Stoppers' YouTube page.

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to an investigation into an assault in a schoolyard.

It is reported that:

- on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, between 2 and 2:30 p.m., a man went to Duke of Connaught Junior and Senior Public School at 70 Woodfield Road

Further investigation has revealed that this incident did not occur as originally reported. The man is no longer wanted. The investigation has been concluded.

On Sunday, April 13, 2014, the annual Toronto Yonge Street 10K Run will take place. The run will form up along Yonge Street at 7 a.m., and, at 9 a.m., will proceed over the following route:

Formation area: Yonge Street, from Lawrence Avenue to Erskine Avenue
- south on Yonge Street
- west on Richmond Street
- south on Peter Street and Blue Jays Way
- west on Front Street
- south on Bathurst Street
- west on Fort York Boulevard
Finish line: Fort York Boulevard

Road closures to the finish line: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.:
Fort York Boulevard, from Bathurst Street to Lake Shore Boulevard

Road closures along race route 8:30 a.m.:
- Yonge Street, from Roselawn Avenue to King Street
- Richmond Street, from Yonge Street to Peter Street
- Peter Street and Blue Jays Way, from Richmond Street to Front Street
- Front Street from Blue Jays Way to Bathurst Street
- Bathurst Street, from King Street to Lake Shore Boulevard
- Fort York Boulevard, from Bathurst Street to Lake Shore Boulevard
- Bathurst Street, from King Street to Lake Shore Boulevard
- Fort York Boulevard, from Bathurst Street to Lake Shore Boulevard
- Fleet Street, from Strachan Avenue to Fort York Boulevard


TTC Diversion Route
As part of this run, the Yonge Street 97-320 bus will be diverted.

The formation area set-up will take place from 6 a.m., to 11 a.m., buses operating on Yonge Street will be diverted in both directions using the following streets:

Northbound:
- north on Yonge Street
- east on Eglinton Avenue
- north on Mount Pleasant
- west on Lawrence Avenue
- north on Yonge Street

Southbound:
- south on Yonge Street
- east on Lawrence Avenue
- south on Mount Pleasant
- west on Eglinton Avenue
- south on Yonge Street

At 8:45 a.m., Yonge Street will be closed to all traffic between King Street and Eglinton Avenue. Buses operating on Yonge Street will be diverted in both directions using the following streets:

Northbound:
- north on Yonge Street
- west on King Street
- north on Bay Street
- west on Davenport Road
- north on Avenue Road
- east on Lawrence Avenue
- north on Yonge Street

Southbound:
- south on Yonge Street
- west on Lawrence Avenue
- south on Avenue Road
- east on Davenport Road
- south on Bay Street
- east on King Street
- south on Yonge Street

Motorists are requested to take extra caution while traveling on the above route as there will be delays.

11 Division's "Wanted Ones," Gregory Martin, 27, Update, Arrest made

As part of 11 Division's "Wanted Ones" program, which identifies wanted people, police requested the public's assistance locating Gregory Martin, 27, of Toronto.

See previous release.

On Thursday, April 10, 2014, Gregory Martin was arrested.

He is charged with:

1) Assault
2) Mischief - Under ($5,000)
3) Fail To Comply - Probation
4) Utter Threat To Cause Bodily Harm

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Friday, April 11, 2014, courtroom 101.

Public Safety Alert, "Secret Shopper" scam

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to a "secret shopper" scam.

It is reported that:

- jobs are being offered to test the services of a cheque-cashing or money-transfer company

- the job promises a payment from each cheque cashed, however these cheques are fraudulent

The Toronto Police Service would like to remind the public not to accept cheques from a source you do not trust.

Be careful of job offers requiring money to be sent through a money-transfer service.

Use caution. You can be held accountable for the monetary loss by your bank.

Two men arrested in Child Pornography investigation, Maxime Mallet, 30, Richard Molinari, 42

On Thursday, April 10, 2014, members of the TPS Sex Crimes Child Exploitation Section, with assistance from TPS Intelligence Services - Technological Crime, executed a search warrant in the Parliament Street and Queen Street East area.

It is alleged that:

- the two men would chat online about sexually assaulting young children

- they shared child pornography with others, online

They have both been charged with:

1) Possession of Child Pornography (two counts)
2) Make Available Child Pornography
3) Make Child Pornography
4) Accessing Child Pornography
5) Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance

They were scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Friday, April 11, 2014, 10 a.m., room 101.

Police believe there may be other victims.

The public and the media are invited to participate in Cops for Cancer, the annual Head Shave Fundraiser at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, 3401 Dufferin Street, on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 11:30 a.m., inside the front of the old Sears entrance.

Started in Edmonton in 1994, Cops for Cancer is a national program raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society to fund research and support patients.

The fundraiser will see dozens of members of the Toronto Police Service and the law-enforcement community, as well as members of the public, have their heads shaved and hair cut.

Hosted by emcees Frank Ferragine and Maurie Sherman, this energetic day will feature head-shaves, haircuts, the return of Jail-N-Bail, and a silent auction.

Canadian Cancer Society Senior Manager of Corporate and Community Partnerships Tonya Stewart said everyone should participate in the event once.

"Cops for Cancer is one of the Canadian Cancer Society's signature events and something every officer should do at least once. Cutting and donating your hair or shaving your head is a visible representation of your commitment to the fight against cancer and the funds you raise help us fund critical services for those fighting the disease today and innovative research into the causes and cures. The Society is so proud to partner with the Toronto Police Service, Yorkdale Shopping Centre and the community on this incredible event."

Yorkdale Shopping Centre is once again sponsoring and hosting the event.

"We are very proud to be lending our support to Cops for Cancer," said Claire Santamaria, General Manager of Yorkdale Shopping Centre. "This event highlights the tremendous community leadership of our friends at the Toronto Police Service, who inspire us every day in their work, and we hope to see lots of people at Yorkdale on April 12 to show their support in the fight against cancer."

TPS Staff Sergeant Chris Boddy will be among those shaving his head in support of the fundraiser.

"Cancer hits home for me and so many others in the community," Boddy said. "This event is a hugely positive way for the police and community to join forces in the fight against cancer."

Sexual Assault Alert, Composite sketch released

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to a sexual assault investigation and is requesting the public's assistance identifying three suspects.

It is reported that:

- on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at approximately 2:45 a.m., a woman, 24, was walking in the Queen Street West and Dufferin Street area

- the woman was pulled into an alleyway by three men and sexually assaulted

- the woman was able to break free when the assault was interrupted by a passerby

The three men are:

Suspect #1: white, 5'10"-6'0", average build, mid-20s, with short blond hair, dark waist-length jacket and blue jeans

Suspect #2: white, 6'0"-6'1", average build, mid-20s, brown hair, short on the sides but longer on top, dark pea coat

Suspect #3: Asian, 5'8"-5'9", average build, mid-20s, blue or grey sweater over a white T-shirt

A composite sketch of the first man is now released.

Homicide #18/2014, Andrea White, 33, Sunday, April 13, 2014, 2 p.m., In front of 15 Forest Creek Pathway, Homicide officer to update media on investigation

On Saturday, April 12, 2014, shortly after 11 p.m., police responded to the Forest Creek Pathway/Old Finch Avenue area for the sound of gunshots.

Once on scene, police found a woman with obvious injuries.

Andrea White, 33, of Toronto, was pronounced on scene.

It is alleged that:

- a white SUV was seen fleeing the area

- a white SUV was located on Highway 401 by the Ontario Provincial Police

- the OPP attempted to stop the SUV at Highway 401 and Avenue Road, but the driver refused to stop

- the SUV fled northbound on Bathurst Street before the occupants abandoned their SUV, and fled on foot

- one of the occupants was arrested after a short foot pursuit

- a second occupant surrendered to Toronto Police several hours later

It is further alleged that:

- a discarded firearm was recovered in the Highway 401 and Avenue Road area

Two men are facing First-Degree Murder charges.

On Sunday, April 13, 2014, at 2 p.m., in front of 15 Forest Creek Pathway, Detective Sergeant Hank Idsinga, Homicide, will update the media on the investigation.

Ariyonna Beals 14, was last seen on Saturday, April 12, 2014, in the Secord Avenue and Dawes Road area.

She is described as light-skinned black, 5'7", 170 lbs., brown eyes, with brown curly hair. She is believed to be wearing grey or black tights and black running shoes.

Police are concerned for her safety.

This year the National Volunteer Week celebrations will be held from April 6 -12, 2014. This is a very special time set aside every year, to honour volunteers and the contributions they make as a fundamental part of each community.

The TPS Divisional Policing Support Unit will be hosting this year's Volunteer Appreciation Night on Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Toronto Police Service College, 70 Birmingham Street, in the theatre, at 7 p.m.

The Adult and Youth Corps, Victim Service Volunteers, Volunteer Chaplains, and the Service’s Community Consultative Committee members will all be in attendance at this annual event.

The John Herra Memorial Award and the Victim Services Award will be presented to those who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and proven commitment to their community.

Police request public's assistance with shooting investigation

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance with a shooting investigation.

It is reported that:

-on Saturday, April 12, 2014, police responded to a radio call for gunshots fired outside 10 Gower Street.

-at least five gunshots were fired

-the 18-year-old victim made his own way to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

-there were witnesses to the shooting

-the victim is not cooperating with investigators

Arrests in Human Trafficking/Juvenile Prostitution investigation, Two men, one woman face 19 charges, Police believe there may be more victims

On Friday, March 28, 2014, the Toronto Police Service started a Human Trafficking/Juvenile Prostitution investigation.

It is alleged that:

- a girl, 17, was assaulted, threatened and forced into becoming a prostitute by two men and one woman

- she was transported, by the three people, between hotels in Mississauga and Scarborough for the purpose of prostitution

- all of her money, her phone, and personal belongings were taken

- she was kept, against her will, in hotel rooms, constantly guarded

On Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 4 p.m., three people were arrested.

Michael Campbell, 30, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Procuring a Person to become a Prostitute
2) Exercise Control
3) Living on the Avails of Prostitution
4) Trafficking in Persons
5) Receive a Material Benefit from Trafficking in Persons
6) Uttering a Death Threat
7) Forcible Confinement
8) Extortion
9) Use of Imitation Firearm during the Commission of an Indictable Offence
10) Under 18-Telecommunication Agreement to Commit Sexual Offence

Timothy Hewton, 23, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Living on avails of juvenile prostitution
2) Trafficking in persons
3) Material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons
4) Use of imitation firearm during commission of an indictable offence

Serena Timbury Welcome, 20, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Living on avails of juvenile prostitution
2) Trafficking in persons
3) Material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons
4) Exercise control
5) Forcible confinement

They were all scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Monday, April 14, 2014, room 101, 10 a.m.

Police believe there may be more victims.

- on Saturday, March 29, 2014, a 28-year-old woman was befriended by a man in the Queen Street East/Broadview Avenue area

- the man then sexually assaulted her
