On Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the rear courtyard of the Jarvis Street Youth Court, at 311 Jarvis Street, the "Justice & Artists" mural will be unveiled.
This mural is the final piece in a local project where unused space between the courthouse and the now-unused York Detention Centre has been reclaimed and made into a park for the courthouse. The mural is on a wall that was part of the Detention Centre's security perimeter.
The mural part of the project is a unique collaboration between the Toronto Police Service, artists from the OCAD University, community youth volunteer artists, the judiciary and court staff. The Crossfit Graffiti Art Program is funded by ProAction Cops & Kids in partnership with Brighten the Corners & Well and Good.
Present at the launch, and available to speak with the media, will be the participating artists Erika Ogilvy, Iago Mcevenue, Stephanie Kenzie, Nicole Dobrowney, Meagan Klonowski, Steve Ferrara of Brighten The Corners, City of Toronto Project Manager for the Graffiti Management Plan Jodi Callan, judges led by His Honour Brian Weagant, Court Officer Susan Klonowski and Shift Supervisor Carla Corsi, Constable Scott Mills and Staff Sergeant Steve Pipe of the Toronto Police Service, Jean Milligan and Sabrina Holmes of ProAction Cops & Kids, and TPS Youth In Policing Initiative students Nicholas Fraser and Malik Manning.
