Media advisory, Saturday, July 13, 2013, noon, Mississauga Sailing Club, 120 Lakefront Promenade, Toronto Police Outrigger Canoe team set to conquer Lake Ontario!

On Saturday, July 13, 2013, after months of indoor and outdoor training, the Toronto Police Service's, 53 Division, Outrigger Canoe Team will be paddling the 55km required to cross Lake Ontario in support of Victim Services Toronto.

The team, through car washes, BBQs, and on-line donations, has raced towards their goal of raising $20,000.

All proceeds will be donated to Victim Services Toronto, in support of their ongoing victim advocacy programs.

The lake crossing and its completion celebration will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at noon.

Two outrigger canoes will launch away at 7 a.m. from Niagara-on-the-Lake and make their journey across Lake Ontario, coming to shore at the Lakefront Promenade Park in Mississauga.

Expected time of arrival is between 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., at the Mississauga Sailing Club, 120 Lakefront Promenade.

Media are invited to attend the Mississauga Sailing Club at 11 a.m., to set up and to capture the feats conclusion and the paddle into the harbor and to meet Coach Peter Buday!

Peter Buday is the Founder and Head Coach of Outrigger Performance Advantage and the police team coach. He comes from a family of successful paddlers. His father, Tamas, won Olympic bronze at the Montreal games in 1976 and his brothers, Attila and Tamas Jr., competed for Canada in three Olympics. Peter made the Junior National Team in 1996 and is a multiple National Champion in Sprint Kayaking. In 1997 he joined the National Dragon Boat Team and was very successful during his eight years with the team highlighted by five World Championship titles!
