The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest following a fire investigation.
It is alleged that:
- on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, a fire occurred at an unlicensed rooming house in the Dufferin Street/Alma Avenue area
- during efforts to extinguish the fire, a Toronto Fire Services firefighter was seriously injured
It is further alleged that:
- a post-fire inspection and investigation conducted by the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management, and Toronto Fire Services, revealed and noted numerous violations of the Ontario Fire Code
On Tuesday, October 25, 2016, Celia Gilda Gomez, 72, of Toronto, was arrested. Police have charged her with:
1) two counts of Arson by Negligence
2) Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm
3) Mischief Endangering Life
4) Mischief - Under ($5000)
She is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, 11 a.m., courtroom 111.
Further investigation is ongoing by Municipal Licensing and Standards and Toronto Fire Services.
