On Friday, June 14, 2013, police officers from the Toronto Police College and 14 Division, along with students from St. Luke Catholic School, will be targeting speeders along Ossington Avenue, south of College Street, between the 9 a.m.-11 a.m. rush hour.
Traffic and pedestrian safety is a priority of the Toronto Police Service. Toronto Police Service has partnered with the Toronto Catholic District School Board, students and residents in the community. The purpose of the program is to bring greater awareness to drivers that excessive speed in a school zone has an effect on the school community. In addition, it will empower the participating students by giving them the opportunity take ownership of their community and change the driving habits of motorists in their schools area.
The offending drivers' speed will be measured by a radar unit being operated by officers and the speed will be compared with the students' own mathematical measurements.
The offending drivers will be pulled over and given the option of receiving an offence notice from the officer or a safety message from the students of St. Luke Catholic School.
For more information, please contact Sergeant Bernie MacDonald at 416-808-4847.
