The Toronto Police Service has been alerted to a pending Viking invasion on Toronto's waterfront set for Thursday, June 13, 2013 where police sources indicate that over 200 interlopers will be coming ashore in Toronto.
The expected location for the clash is 525 Commissioners Street, at Bayside Rowing Club. The 200+ participants are part of the final regatta for the Eric The Red Rowing League for Kids: a program that has seen officers and kids pulling together for the last 5-weeks in preparation for the final "invasion"!
Toronto Police Service Chief Bill Blair has given his full support and endorsement to this program and is excited to see so many kids and officers participating!
Eric Szonyi, Vice Principal of Queen Victoria School in Parkdale has been amazed by the kids development and increase in self confidence. This has been a great opportunity for our kids to try something new beyond their comfort level and a whole new level of teamwork: moving together in sync has been a great experience! I'm optimistic that these lessons will impact relationships when they're back in the classroom. An added bonus was to have the teachers rowing side-by-side with their students, allowing that student/teacher relationship to grow and take on a new connection.
Dominic Kahn, Head Coach for Bayside Rowing Club says "We are excited to give so many kids an opportunity that they would never have otherwise. Some of these kids could be future Olympians representing Canada one day, and that's exciting! The real gem is the officers and kids pulling together."
Canadian Tire Jumpstart has funded the program through Harry Bell, Regional Manager, Southern Ontario. Anytime we get an opportunity to have the Toronto Police Service working with Toronto youth in a program to get kids physically active is a good thing. Collaborative partnerships are what its all about these days and this is a great example of what can happen when you bring the right people together!
Media are invited to attend.
