Public Safety Alert, Four arrests in Distraction-Theft investigation, Police believe there may be more victims

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of four arrests in an investigation into distraction-thefts targeting elderly and vulnerable people.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, June 9, 2013, two men and two women approached a number of elderly and vulnerable people under the ruse of selling them jewellery or offer them gifts on behalf of the church

- the four would advise the victims that they remind the four of a loved one, either deceased or ill

- in some instances, the four would touch or force a pice of jewellery on the victims and, while telling the victim a story and attempting to give, sell, or apply the jewellery, the four would remove the victims' real jewellery and walk away

- the four spoke several languages including Italian

On Tuesday, July 11, 2013, at approximately 3:15 p.m., the four were arrested.

1) Ifigenia Miclescu, 31
2) Apalsca Miclescu, 33
3) Florelia Vaduva, 34
4) Radu Alexandru, 38

All four, of Toronto, are each charged with:

1) Theft over
2) Robbery
3) Attempt theft
4) Possession of Property obtained by crime
5) Possession of proceeds of crime

They were scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 10 a.m.

Police believe there may be more victims.
