The Toronto Police Service is pleased to announce that it has reached an important settlement with the Ontario Human Rights Commission and Mr. Boyd Kodak relating to the Service's commitment to better serving the Trans communities of Toronto.

By June 24, 2016, the Toronto Police Service and the Commission will agree to set out terms for how the police will develop and revise its policies, procedures and training, in consultation with the Trans community, to address its interactions with Trans people. The Tribunal will continue to oversee the development of the terms.

Mr. Boyd Kodak's involvement with the Toronto Police Service has led to the agreement.

Today’s settlement complements the efforts of the Service over the last number of years when it comes to improving relations with the LGBTQ community and, specifically, Trans persons.

Thanks to the support and active involvement of various community organizations and individuals to date, the Service has Trans-specific procedures and training in place.

Ongoing projects include the creation of a Guide to Policing for the Trans Communities.

The Service is pleased to be moving forward in these areas and expects that, with today’s agreement, improvements to our relationship with Trans communities will continue for years to come.
