On Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 9 a.m., on Brenyon Way between Sewells Road and Sheppard Avenue East, officers from 42 Division, along with members of the Ontario Cycling Association, and with the assistance of numerous volunteers, will be hosting the 6th annual “Malvern Bike Race.”

Chief Blair will be in attendance to cheer the kids on and present awards.

A series of bicycle road races with approximately 120 children from the Scarborough area will be competing for the “George Terry Cup”. With the generous support of sponsors such as the Canadian Tire “Jump Start Program” and ProAction Cops & Kids, each child participating will receive a brand new bicycle and helmet to use during the race, which will also be theirs to keep after the event.

This event provides youth between the ages of 13–17 with the opportunity to experience the speed and thrill of an organized bicycle road race that is professionally timed and overseen by the Ontario Cycling Association. This is also an opportunity for police officers to interact with local youth on a one-to-one level in a fun and informal setting.

Road closures and lane restrictions will be in effect along Brenyon Way from 7 a.m., to 2 p.m. Area residents will be assisted by police in getting to and from their homes.

For further information please contact Staff Sergeant Dave Rydzik at 416-808-4254 or Constable Diana Joness at 416-808-4200.

ProAction Cops & Kids is a charity that funds projects and activities, initiated and run by police officers which engage kids at risk. Its goal is to build trust and mutual respect between cops and kids, helping kids at risk before they become kids in trouble.
