On Wednesday, February 3, 2016, Toronto Police Service officers from the Employment Unit will be hosting a closing feast to wrap up a three-day employment workshop for Aboriginal youth.

Thanks to a partnership with Resume Target, a professional resume-writing service, Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training, ProAction Cops & Kids, and the Employment Unit of the Toronto Police Service, we were pleased to offer our knowledge and expertise to youth by providing access to career-related information, premium resume templates youth can customize, employment resources, and interview-preparation courses in an effort to help young people obtain a job that matches their interests and skills. The youth will also be attending a "Dress to Impress" workshop by Image North Consulting. All youth will receive a new professional outfit and makeover on the day of the feast.

Of the eleven youth who attended the workshop, nine applied to the Toronto Police Service Youth In Policing Initiative program.

ProAction Cops & Kids is a charity that supports programs, developed and delivered by police officers,to engage at-risk youth in our communities. ProAction believes that bringing cops and kids together in healthy, fun, skill-building activities creates mutual understanding and respect and establishes positive relationships that strengthen our community today and for the future.

Since inception, ProAction has reached close to 390,000 young people and supported over 15,000 police-initiated programs delivered throughout Toronto, Durham Region, Hamilton, and Niagara. Programs include a wide range of activities such as sports, camping, music, construction, cooking, leadership and cultural programs that allow young people with varied interests and skills to participate and benefit.

Through ProAction programs, police partners become mentors to participating youth and help guide them towards better life choices. ProAction programs allow officers to gain valuable insight on the daily issues youth face and enables them to intervene before youth become criminally involved. All ProAction programs are free of charge and focus on high priority neighbourhoods to ensure that those most in need have access to these programs.

A special thanks to TD Canada Trust who provided the funding to ProAction Cops & Kids, making this event possible.
