Arrest made in Secret Shopper Scam, Woman faces 47 fraud-related charges

The Toronto Police would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a nationwide Secret Shopper Scam.

It is alleged that:

- the accused was involved in a sophisticated scam recruiting unsuspecting victims for gainful employment as a secret shopper

- once hired, the victims would be sent cheques to cash in their own account, with instructions to use a portion of the money to shop at various businesses, then grade the service received at those businesses

- one of the final instructions would be grading the service at a cheque cashing business and send a wire transfer involving a large percentage of the money received

- the victim would later learn the cheques initially deposited into their accounts, were fraudulent

- the cheques were drawn on the account of 'Oakwood Canada'

- the scam operated under the following known business names:

-Secret Shopper
-Global Business Modifications
-GBM Inc
-Stellar Business Solutions

On Wednesday, March 6, 2013, Shannon Green, 25, of Brampton, was arrested and charged with:

1. 19 counts of Counseling to commit an indictable offence
2. two counts of Fraud Over $5,000
3. three counts of Fraudulently use Credit Card Data
4. 22 counts of Uttering Forged Documents
5. Attempt Fraud under $5,000

She is scheduled to appear at College Park Courts on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at 10 a.m., room 507.

The investigation is ongoing.
