Media advisory, Monday May 13, 2013, noon, Toronto Police College, 70 Birmingham Street, Toronto Police Service welcomes 80 new recruits

The Toronto Police Service will be hosting a graduation ceremony for 80 new police recruits at the Toronto Police College, 70 Birmingham Street, on Monday, May 13, 2013 at noon.

Chief William Blair, along with Toronto Police Services Board Chair Alok Mukherjee and Deputy Minister Ian Davidson, Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, will be in attendance for this special occasion.

The graduating class represents many various cultural communities and brings a wealth of knowledge and diversity to the Service. This includes language skills, previous military or policing experience and post-secondary education.

The class is comprised of 8.8% women, 42.5% visible minority and 35% have previous policing or military experience. A total of 63.8% speak a language other than English, with 23.5% speaking two languages other than English such as Arabic, American Sign Language, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Pashtu, Punjabi, Somalian, Tagalog, Ukrainian and Urdu.
