The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in a recent investigation into overnight commercial Break-and-Enters throughout the Scarborough area.
It is alleged that:
- on Saturday, July 4, 2015, a man broke into a restaurant in the Milner Avenue and Morningside Avenue area
- once inside, the man took a large sum of cash
It is further alleged that:
- on Sunday, July 13, 2015, a man broke into a restaurant in the Steeles Avenue East and Markham Road area
- once inside, the man took a large sum of cash
It is further alleged that:
- on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, a man broke into a restaurant in the Warden Avenue and Eglinton Avenue area
- once inside, the man took a large sum of cash
It is further alleged that:
- on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, a man broke into a restaurant in the Brimley Road and Sheppard Avenue East area
- once inside, the man took a large sum of cash
It is further alleged that:
- on Thursday, July 23, 2015, a man attempted to break into a restaurant in the Markham Road and Passmore Avenue area
- the man was unable to gain entry, but caused damage to the entryway
It is further alleged that:
- on Saturday, July 25, 2015, a man broke into a restaurant in the Port Union Road and Sheppard Avenue East area
- once inside, the man took a large sum of cash
It is further alleged that:
- on Sunday, July 26, 2015, a man broke into two restaurants in the Markham Road and Steeles Avenue East area
- once inside, the man took large sums of cash
It is further alleged that:
- on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, a man broke into a restaurant in the Port Union Road and Sheppard Avenue East area
- once inside, the man took a large sum of cash
On Tuesday, July 28, 2015, members of the 42 Division Major Crime Unit arrested Douglas Belanger, 49, of Toronto.
He is charged with:
1) eight counts of Break-and-Enter
2) eight counts of Disguise with Intent
3) nine counts of Possession of Break-and-Enter Instrument
4) Attempt to Commit an Indictable Offence
5) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
6) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
7) Fail to Comply Probation.
He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Wednesday, July 28, 2015, 10 a.m, room 412.
Police believe he may be responsible for other overnight commercial Break-and-Enters.
