It is reported that:

- an older-model brown car stopped on the road near the woman
- the car was driven by a man and had a woman in the back seat
- the woman in the back seat motioned the gardening woman to come closer and asked her for directions
- the woman approached the car and leaned into it, while giving directions and the woman in the car slid a gold-coloured ring into her blouse pocket
- the woman tried to return the ring to the woman in the car and, while doing so, the woman in the car grabbed her by the hand and attempted to remove her diamond ring
- nothing was obtained and the car fled the scene
The driver was described as a white man, 24-26, with a mustache and black hair.
The passenger in the back seat was described as a white woman, 60-70, with black, short, curly hair
