The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to two arrests in a Fraud investigation. Multiple complaints from the public were received by those who had been allegedly defrauded out of their money for services that were never delivered.
It is alleged that:
- during November and December 2014, Snow Easy Plowing advertised on promotional sites, such as Living Social and Groupon, snow-removal services at a deeply discounted rate
- many people signed up for the service
- following the first big snowfall in December, customers did not receive the service they paid for
- no one showed up to do their walkways and driveways
- customers continued to contact Snow Easy for service, and eventually got through to a voicemail, indicating the company had gone out of business
On Friday, July 24, 2015, Snow Easy Plowing registered owners Zain-Ur-Rehman Shaikh, 25, of Missisauga and Zaidi Shahmir, 24, of Brampton, were both arrested.
They have each been charged with
1) 18 counts of Fraud
2) 16 counts of Pass Off Wares
They are scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, September, 22, 2015, 1 p.m., room 301.
Police believe there may be other victims.
