Traffic safety continues to be a priority for the Toronto Police Service.

On Sunday, June 7, 2015, at 11:30 a.m., 33 Division Traffic Safety Office, Community Response Unit, Revera Retirement Living, residents and students will be closing a section of The Donway East to march in effort to raise awareness and improve pedestrian safety.

Rosaline Sonshine, a 33 Division volunteer, has worked countless hours to develop partnerships with IKEA and through government grants to provide reflective vests to some citizens who might otherwise be difficult for drivers to see. Visibility is an important component to being safe while cycling, walking or running in our City. Officers in 33 Division have been distributing these to citizens who are walking or cycling in poor lighting conditions when they are at higher risk of being in a collision.

Revera Retirement Living at 8 The Donway East and the citizens who reside in the area have joined to raise awareness. We need to prevent further pedestrian fatalities and injuries in the City of Toronto.

Help us continue to spread this message to all pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by attending the event and supporting a safer commute for all!

We have had 27 fatalities in Toronto this year. Of that 27, 20 of these have been pedestrians. This count of pedestrian fatalities quadruples our number (5) last year at this time. Each one of those numbers represents a person's life and is tragic for entire families and entire communities.

Together we will make a difference because #everyONEmatters .
