In July 2007, 22-year-old Tyler McGill, an avid music and guitar enthusiast, was fatally stabbed in a Scarborough parking lot. Each year since, Tylers family and friends have hosted a charity rock concert. The event helps them heal, keep Tylers memory alive and raise funds for ProAction Cops & Kids, a charity that funds police-led, youth-outreach initiatives such as the Toronto Police-led, guitar-oriented Music! Not Mischief program. The theme of this event is to bring awareness to violent acts of crime and to foster community and police partnerships within the message that The Violence Has to Stop!
On Sunday, April 28, 2013, between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., the Fifth Annual Tyler McGill (T-LAR) Memorial Benefit Concert (2013) will be held at the Queen Victoria Pub, 2240 Midland Avenue.
A silent auction will also be held which includes luxury resort weekends, spa getaways, autographed sports and entertainment memorabilia, including high-end Carpararelli Guitars autographed by the Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo..and more!
The entire evening will be filled with live musical entertainment, combined with community support, family and friends.
To date, the Tyler McGill Memorial Benefit has raised over $25,000 for ProAction Cops & Kids. Generous donations like these are what allow programs like MUSIC! Not Mischief to continue and expand.
