On Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at 9 p.m., two men were arrested by uniform officers from 41 Division.
It is alleged that:
- they were arrested immediately after an armed robbery
- this robbery was part of a series dubbed the "Halloween Bandits"
- on Friday, October 31, 2014, two men attended both a Subway Restaurant and a Mac’s Convenience store in the Eglinton Avenue East and Brimley Road area
- both men concealed their identities by wearing scary clown Halloween masks
- one man was armed with an axe and the other man was armed with a replica assault rifle
- they both demanded cash from the register and attempted to get the safe opened at both premises
- they threatened the victim and banged the axe several times on the counter, then fled with the cash
It is further alleged that:
- between Friday, October 31, 2014, and Tuesday, January 13, 2015, the two men robbed eight stores
- they targeted Dollarama’s and fast-food establishments
- the victims in each of the robberies were threatened with an assortment of weapons including replica handguns, long guns and knives
- the two men were joined by a boy on Tuesday, January 13, 2015
- they attended a Dollarama near Eglinton Avenue East and Midland Avenue armed with a large knife and a silver handgun
- they wore balaclavas and stormed the front door while the employees were closing up for the night
- the employees were corralled into the back of the store and were ordered to open the safe
- one woman was struck on the side of the face with the handgun
- a quantity of money was obtained and they fled the area, as police were arriving
- after a short foot chase, both men were arrested
- the boy was arrested shortly after
- Hold Up officers executed search warrants, resulting in the recovery of several replica weapons including handguns, machine guns, a shotgun and rifle.
Daniel Crosby, 20, of Toronto, has been arrested and charged with:
1) nine counts of robbery while armed
2) eight counts of Disguise with intent
3) Forcible Confinement
4) two counts of Robbery
He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, 10 a.m.
Marek Adam, 19, of Toronto, has been arrested and charged with:
1) nine counts of Robbery while armed
2) eight counts of Disguise with intent
3) Forcible Confinement
4) two counts of Robbery
He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, 10 a.m.
A 16-year-old boy, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
1) Robbery while armed
2) Disguise with intent
3) Weapons Dangerous
He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, 10 a.m.
The boy's name cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
