The Toronto St. Patrick's Parade Society has asked us to circulate the following news release:
"Boys in Blue to help paint the town green! Police Chief Bill Blair named Grand Marshal of the 2015 Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade"
Police Chief Bill Blair will be honoured as Grand Marshal of the 2015 Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade, the parade organizers have announced.
"We're thrilled to honour Chief Blair as this year's Grand Marshal," says Alan Louthe, Chair of the St. Patrick's Day Parade. "Toronto Police have played an important role in the parade throughout its 28-year history. In fact, the Police Pipe Band was one of the first confirmed acts for the inaugural parade and has marched in the parade every year since."
The Toronto St. Patrick’s Day Parade is counted among the top St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in North America with approximately 500,000 people who line the parade route each year. The parade celebrates Ireland, Toronto's Irish community and the diversity that makes Toronto great, with floats, bands and marching sections from a variety of cultural groups.
“I am pleased and proud to be the Grand Marshal of the 2015 Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade. It’s been an important event in the city for many years,” says Chief Bill Blair.
The parade will take place Sunday, March 15, 2015. It follows a route through downtown Toronto starting across from Varsity Stadium and finishing at Nathan Phillips Square. It will feature nearly 100 marching groups, floats and bands.
