In April 2009, Alphanso Warren, 37, pleaded guilty to abandoning his baby, known as "Angelica Leslie." The infant was found alone, in a North York shopping mall parking lot, in the winter of 2008.
Warren received a one-year pre-trial custody and a two-year probation sentence. In 2009, during his probation, it is alleged that Warren fled Canada to his native Jamaica. A warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to comply with probation for failing to report to police as directed by the court.
On Friday, December 5, 2014, Fugitive Squad received information that he was making arrangements to return to Canada. An investigation was started.
On Tuesday, December 9, 2014, the Fugitive Squad officers confirmed that he was on a flight to Toronto and, with the assistance of 33 Division, he was arrested and taken into custody at Lester B. Pearson International Airport.
He will be appearing at 1000 Finch Court on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, for a bail hearing.
