The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of two arrests in two separate robberies.
It is alleged that:
- on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at approximately 7:45 p.m., a 38-year-old woman was walking in the Markham Road/Lawrence Avenue East area
- as the woman walked into a pathway off Greenbrae Circuit, a girl and a boy grabbed her and pushed her to the ground
- the two tore off a purse slung across the woman's chest and fled
- the woman flagged down a passerby who called police
- police searched the area but were unable to located the pair
It is further alleged that:
- later, at approximately 10:45 p.m., a 29-year-old woman was walking southbound on Livingston Road, from the Guildwood GO Station, with her 21-month-old daughter
- from behind, the pair grabbed onto the woman, assaulted her and made a demand for her infant, money, and cellphone
- during the assault, the pair threatened to injure the infant
- throughout the assault, the woman protected her daughter until she fell backwards, exposing her daughter
- at this point, the girl grabbed the infant from her mom
- the mother managed to grab her daughter back from the girl
- the pair kicked and punched the woman again before fleeing
- the mother called police immediately
- moments after police arrived, they arrested the girl, fleeing the scene
- a perimeter was immediately set up
- at approximately 12:15 a.m., the boy was tracked down within the perimeter and arrested
The mother and daughter were taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released.
The 12 year-old girl, of Toronto, is charged with:
1) Abduction of person under 14
2) Assault
3) two counts of Robbery
4) Uttering threats
The 14-year-old boy, of Toronto, is charged with:
1) Abduction of person under 14
2) Assault
3) two counts of Robbery
4) two counts of Uttering threats
5) two counts of Breach of Recognizance
6) two counts of Fail to Comply - Undertaking
They were both scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East, on Friday, December 5, 2014, in courtroom 408 at 9:30 a.m.
The boy and girl cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
