The Toronto Police Service will continue to be diligent with education and enforcement strategies to enhance pedestrian safety within our communities.

November, the month that Daylight Savings Time is introduced, has traditionally been the month when pedestrians are involved in the most collisions.

Traffic safety continues to be identified as a Toronto Police Service priority with an increased focus on pedestrian safety, especially seniors.

"STEP UP and Be Safe" was a pedestrian safety campaign that began on Monday, November 3, 2014 and concluded at midnight Sunday, November 9, 2014.

See previous release.

41 Division officers will be extending this campaign and will continue to be diligent and promote education initiatives and associated enforcement strategies to enhance pedestrian safety until Sunday, November 30, 2014.

All officers from 41 Division will pay particular attention to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians who commit offences in the vicinity of pedestrian crossovers, crosswalks, intersections, school zones and crossing areas frequented by seniors.

Officers will also be concentrating on distracted drivers, speeding, red-light, stop-sign and other offences and officers will also continue designated R.I.D.E. spot checks.

Pedestrians are encouraged to avoid using distracting electronic devices when interacting with vehicular traffic.
