42 Division's Community Police Liaison Committee is hosting its third annual crime prevention conference to address the growing problem of drugs and alcohol abuse among youth. The conference seeks to educate youth and their parents on the social and physical consequences of abusing drugs and alcohol.
Speakers include:
- M.P. Roxanne James, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety
- Sarah Bonikowsky, Canadian Olympic athlete
- Constable Jaime Knox, School Resource Officer working in the community
- Cathy Middleton, with a remarkable personal story as a drug addict living on the streets of Toronto and how she got her life back on track
- Donna Quan, Director of Education of the Toronto District School Board
The conference will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at L'Amoreaux Community Recreation Centre at 2000 McNicoll Avenue.
The conference is a collaborative effort of the Toronto Police Service 42 Division and the Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). All stakeholders, including parents, educators, youth workers and youth are welcome to attend this important event. Admission is free.
A short ceremony to honor Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent has also been planned at the conference.
The CPLC is a partnership between the police and the community. Since community issues cannot be dealt with solely by the police, community members residing in the Division work together with their respective Toronto police Divisions to keep their neighbourhoods safe. This conference is one such endeavour of 42 Division and their CPLC.
For more information, please contact S/Sgt. Dave Rydzik at 416-808-4254 or Constable Mark Gray at 416-808-4251.
