On Friday, March 1, 2013, members of the Toronto Police Service Fugitive Squad, with the assistance of the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Unit (ROPE Squad), arrested three Canadian citizens living in southern Ontario who are wanted in the USA on drug-related offences.
Han Cavan, 45, of Kitchener; Joe Van Lo, 48, of Chatham; and William Hicks, 37, of Richmond Hill, were all arrested and are being held for extradition proceedings.
They are all wanted in New York State on drug charges.
It is alleged that:
- the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) started an investigation in 2008
- as a result of the investigation, a cocaine-smuggling operation was uncovered which involved the importation of large quantities of illegal narcotics moving from Ontario into New York State
- they played various roles in the above operation
All thee accused are currently before the courts at 361 University Avenue where they are set to begin their extradition proceedings.
