The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest subsequent to an Impaired Driving complaint.
It is alleged that:
- on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at 4:08 a.m., officers responded to calls for an Impaired Driver on the Gardiner Expressway
- officers tracked the vehicle to a gas station in The Queensway and Islington Avenue area
- witnesses observed the vehicle driven in an erratic manner
- the vehicle was observed striking the guardrail and continuing on
- the vehicle suffered two flat tires, but was still driven on
Ryan Grossman, 22, of Toronto, is now charged with:
1) Impaired Driving
2) Drive While Over 80 mgs
He was charged and later released pending a court appearance in November 2014.
It is further alleged that:
- officers investigated the passengers in his car
- all passengers were required to leave the car so that it could be impounded
- one of the passengers went into the gas station washroom
- the butt end of a gun was observed in his waistband
- officers arrested him and recovered a loaded 9mm pistol
Waylon Immanuel Smith, 20, of Brampton, is now charged with:
1) Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
2) Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
3) Carry Firearm in a Careless Manner
4) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
5) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
6) Possession of a Loaded Restricted Firearm
7) Possession of a Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Prohibited
8) Carry Concealed Weapon
9) Possession of a Weapon
10) two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance
11) Fail to Comply with Probation
12) Possession of a Prohibited Device Knowing its Possession if Prohibited
He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Monday, October 13, 2014, room 111.
