Replica Handguns and Over $16,000 of Heroin Seized by 31 Division Neighbourhood Safety Officers, Sheppard Avenue West and Chesswood Drive

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest and the seizure of over $16,000 of heroin and two replica handguns.

It is alleged that:

- on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, police attempted to arrest a man and a woman who were believed to be trafficking drugs in the area of Sheppard Avenue West and Chesswood Drive

- when the officers approached the man to investigate him, he armed himself with a butterfly knife and fled

- the officers pursued the man and arrested him

It is further alleged that:

- police executed two CDSA search warrants, which led to the seizure of heroin that exceeded a street value of over $16,000 and seized two replica handguns

Arash Hatamanadi Farahani, 34, of Toronto, and Jamie Atchison, 29, of Toronto, are both charged with:

1) Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
2) Possession of a Schedule I Substance (heroin)
3) Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
4) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
5) Fail to Comply Recognizance x 2
6) Possession of Schedule II substance (Marijuana)

The are both scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at 10 a.m.
